Learn to love yourself so that you can love others. I want to encourage all Nigerians, especially in this trying times, to love themselves more than ever before, so they can love others. With love we can overcome all things. People say that "love is blind", but for me, "Love sees all things but endures all". Like we all know, tough times don't last but tough people do, so we must endure to overcome.

Parents love your children and all other children in the environment where you live. Teach children the right things, encourage and motivate them so that they can improve our tomorrow and in-turn do same for their children. Protect your children from being used negatively by adults, organisations, societies e.t.c.

 Love and take good care of yourself, when you practice this, you will extend same to others.
Love is for all SEASONS !!!!

SCHOOLS EBOLA ALERT - NEW RESUMPTION DATE

                                           TO PREVENT CHILDREN FROM EBOLA.

In line with best international practices as already exhibited by Sierra Leon, Nigerian Government has also announced the extension of the Summer Holiday and suspension of all on-going Summer Lesson Classes. The new Resumption date for Primary and Secondary Schools is Monday, 13th September 2014. This is a welcome development since Ebola has not been contained.

 The Federal Government have graciously lifted the suspension placed on Resident Doctors today. It is a good and necessary action at this point as the Nation battles Ebola Virus.

SMOKING IN TEENAGERS

Few days ago in a chat, the following transpired;

STUDENT ;   Ma, there is a boy I know who has recently started smoking due to peer pressure. What can I do to help him?

AUNTY IFY ;    Well my dear, peer pressure is a usual and constant thing in the life of a Teenager. A teenager is impressionable and some times, things that are morally wrong may seem to be right due to ignorance or lack of superior argument or lack of information. In the quest "to belong ", many youngsters get involved in bad things or huge danger and sometimes even loose their lives. Smoking is one of such bad things. It is even worst when a girl smokes {as we see in more advanced societies}because at child bearing stage, it may cause lots of complications which will have negative health implications. How can someone let a momentary pleasure destroy his or her life? Smoking is dangerous to health and addictive, and even the producers always include a warning on the packs or in their adverts where they clearly state that 'Smokers are liable to die young'. So tell this boy in question to make a choice ; if he wants to die young or live long'?. Also remind him of the old saying that "a word is enough for the wise".

NYSC - REDEPLOYMENT

Nigerian Government has just announced today that total redeployment be done for  Youth Corpers posted to 7 States due to security concerns. But shockingly, Kaduna State is not among these 7 States with all the recent Bomb blasts?. There should be a "revisit " to this issue because these Corpers are our valuable children and our future hope, so every State that poses even a tiny risk, should be excluded. It will get to a point when each Corper should be asked to choose any State of his/her choice, maybe excluding State of origin. This maybe the lasting solution to this NYSC posting issues.

I sincerely believe that Montessori Method of Education is a very solid foundation and a great starting point for early childhood education. Why do I say so? 
It is completely a practical learning method, and you know that no child can forget anything done with his or her hands.
It is child friendly because all Apparatus or Materials are designed to be child size, save and child friendly.
It uses 'one-on-one' individual based learning and teaching method. 
It preaches inner peace for children.
It encourages creativity in children and their Teachers.
It is cheaper than what critics say to implement if you are guided by a professional Consultant.
It is an investment that you will get more than the 'value for you money'.
It is very helpful for special needs children.
I have applied Montessori in many Schools and it worked in all and is still in use in these Schools.

SHOULD MEDICAL DOCTORS GO ON STRIKE?

As a medical Doctors you have pledged to save lives and abide by the ethics and code of conduct of the medical profession. You have been taught to "choose to do what will be beneficial to more people, and do more good than harm", but this is not what we see Doctors do in the real life situations in Nigeria. They 'chicken out' at the slightest provocation. They are always talking about better welfare all the time. But what of the welfare and well-being of their Patients? I thought that 'customers are always right' or does it not apply to Patients as customers? There are Doctors who volunteer to serve at war fronts, disaster areas, epidemic zones and most times under very dangerous and hostile situations, but they don't give up, they don't go on strike, but we only see such Doctors on CNN, Euro News, Aljazeera and such foreign TV News Stations. This doctors strike has brought untold hardship on people, many sick people have died because they can not afford alternative private health care. It has also encouraged the practices of  fake health care providers all over the country, who usually operate under unhygienic environments.

SHOULD MEDICAL DOCTORS GO ON STRIKE?

OVER 100 DAYS IN CAPTIVITY. #BRING BACK OUR GIRLS.

It is over 100 days from 14th April 2014 that these young and innocent Girls were forcefully taken away from their School in Chibok Town in Borno State of Nigeria. We will keep praying for them and hoping to see them soonest by the grace of God.

STRIKE, STRIKE, STRIKE, EVERYWHERE !!!

Nigerian Medical Association {NMA}Members are on strike. The Judiciary Workers are on strike. Is it only by strike that welfare issues, Industrial and Labour disputes can be resolved? Why does the Government usually wait for a group or union to go on a Nation wide strike before attending seriously to them or give them full audience?
Whatever happened to that little but heavy phrase "ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION"? Going by our experience in Nigeria, the two or more parties involved finally end up at a round [oval, rectangular, square etc] table for serious discussions, negotiations with mediators to broker PEACE.

TEENAGERS AND ADOLESCENTS FORUM {unedited} - JULY 2014

PARTICIPANT:  I met a girl in my area, she came and greeted me and I answered. She told me she was sent out of the house. She was begging me to accommodate her for the night but I told her I could not. I asked her why she was sent out of the house, she told me she stayed with her aunty that her aunty sent her out but I did not know what she does. But later that night, I got to know why she was lying. She called me one side where nobody could hear us and she said that; she was influenced by her friend, that they both go out together, that they sleep with boys, that like three times she got pregnant and aborted unaware of her aunty.


RESPONSE BY AUNTY IFY:  I think you applied wisdom by not letting her sleep in your place because that permission to spend the night must always come from your parents or guardians who will fully interrogate your visitor and know the right steps to take.
I think also that this girl is a bad egg and may pollute you if this relationship continues or gets stronger, please "detach" yourself from her company. Remember Bible states that "evil communication corrupts good manners", so please stay away from this girl and avoid her company. A girl could die from an abortion procedure or her womb may get damaged if anything goes wrong. STD's [sexually transmitted diseases] can be contacted from multiple sexual partners and illicit sex. Look for your age mates in who discuss positive issues, events and socials in your area or neighborhood.
